Our photo hides
Take a peek into some of our hides to see what it’s like to sit there! Keep in mind that all hides are unique and tailored to specific site conditions.
Our four permanent hides (Capercaillie, Eagle, Rough-legged Buzzard, and Goshawk) are winter-insulated wooden buildings equipped with comfortable armchairs, gas heaters, and dry toilets. Upon entering, visitors remove their boots and sit inside in warm sheepskin slippers. Bring a tripod head/gimbal or similar and attach it to the bench against the photo hatches. Fabric hoods with elastic bands are fitted around the lenses in the openings to seal tightly. Above the hatches are panoramic windows for excellent visibility.
All raptor hides are designed for three people with at least three photo hatches. The eagle hide has more. Learn more about each hide on its respective page.
For the leking Black Grouse, guests overnight in the large hide building, which has four beds, four armchairs, a gas heater, dry toilet, and gas stove. As an ambitious photographer, one may want to venture out at dawn and settle into the tent hides placed on wooden platforms in the damp marshes where the Black Grouse display. There, you get very close to the action.
The floating hide for Black Terns is designed for two people and has hatches at sitting and lying heights. The hide has a wooden floor that is warm/soft to sit on. It is perfectly fine to stay overnight for those who wish.
For the Capercaillie lek, we use portable tent hides. The routine is to arrive at the hides no later than 6:00 p.m. to avoid disturbing the males as they start to gather at the display ground. Guests spend the night (camp) in the tent hide to be invisibly present when the males begin their display at dawn. Capercaillie photography is the most demanding/adventurous of our photo experiences. Most tents are designed for one person, and we also have a larger hide for two people.
